Plight of little boy touched readers’ hearts
THE FUTURE is looking brighter in 2012 for one vulnerable little Ukrainian boy – after Cumbernauld News readers rallied round to save his sight.
Last year we told of impoverished little Bohdan Sobolevski and how a household accident looked set to leave him with the use of just one eye.

Hide AdFortunately for Bohdan, he was one of the children that well-known Abronhill-based aid worker Jim Gillies encountered when taking medical supplies to clinics.
The medical centres are where poverty-stricken victims of the radiation poisoning from Chernobyl are treated – nearly three DECADES after the catastrophe.
Following an appeal printed in this newspaper an anonymous donation was made to Jim – and Bohdan was able to have the operation at a point when the eye was still able to be treated.
