Just the ticket for us
This is what a new town bus station should be like, says MSP Hepburn

WHY can't Cumbernauld have a bus station that is clean, safe and comfortable - like the one in Glenrothes?
That is the question MSP Jamie Hepburn is asking transport and planning authorities after a visit to the Fife new town.
The Central Scotland SNP list member has written to Strathclyde transport chiefs seeking progress on his call for a decent bus station in our own Town Centre.
Mr Hepburn was told in March by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) that a Bus Action Plan was being developed for North Lanarkshire.
As well as asking the SPT what progress is being made on this, he has also written to North Lanarkshire Council about using the former B&Q site as a location for a bus station.
The authority had previously told Mr Hepburn that B&Q had identified a preferred buyer for the site, but now several months on it is still lying empty and unused.
He said: "I am determined not to let the issue of a decent bus station for Cumbernauld slip off the radar.
"On a recent visit to Glenrothes, which is of course a new town like Cumbernauld, I saw first-hand how an attractive, modern, accessible bus station can benefit the travelling public.
"If it is good enough for Glenrothes, it is good enough for Cumbernauld.
"I will be doing all I can to keep up pressure on the relevant authorities until we see some progress on a badly needed bus station for Cumbernauld."
"We are also aware of a number of issues involving bus operators and our compliance officers are dealing with those."
Tom Peebles, Traffic and Transportation team leader with North Lanarkshire Council, said: "The land at the former B&Q site in Cumbernauld is under private ownership and the council understands that the owners intend to sell the site as a retail development area".
