THIS being the 90th Anniversary of the formation of The Royal Air Force, in September, throughout the UK, the RAF Association (RAFA) will be reaching out to local communities in a nationwide fundraising drive which commemorates veterans of the Second World War and subsequent conflicts.
In particular it will remember the bravery, and in many cases, the ultimate sacrifice made by those members of the RAF involved in the Battle of Britain, Korea, The Falklands, Iraq, Afghanistan and other war- torn areas.

The Cumbernauld Branch of
the RAFA will be out and about on the streets of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area asking members of the public to dig deep and donate funds to their 2008 Wings Appeal.

If you wish to make a donation, please visit them at TESCO Extra on Monday and Tuesday, September 1 and 2, or in the Town Centre on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20. Alternatively, you can call the donation line on freephone 0800 0182 361.

By donating to the Appeal, the public will help towards providing welfare and care for those ex-serving members and families of the RAF who are in need.

The Battle of Britain, which took place in the skies over our country in 1940, was one of the most important moments in British history and a decisive turning point in the Second World War, helping to ensure the nation's freedom, that we so often take for granted.

The RAF at that time was all that stood between a German invasion of British shores.
