LORD Hogg of Cumbernauld died on Wednesday, October 8, following a brave battle against cancer.
He was Labour MP for the former East Dunbartonshire constituency between 1979 and 1983 and later for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth constituency.

He left Parliament at the 1997 General Election. He returned to live in his native Aberdeen but on being elevated to the House of Lords, maintained his link with his old constituency by taking the title Lord Hogg of Cumbernauld.

A popular figure in the town with friends across the political divide, Lord Hogg will be greatly missed. Lord Hogg is survived by his wife Elizabeth.

Rosemary McKenna, who succeeded Lord Hogg in the House of Commons, said: "Norman's death will sadden a lot of people who saw in him a good friend, a very able politician and a fine trade unionist. The Labour and trade union movements have lost a very special man. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to Elizabeth at this very sad time."
