CUMBERNAULD Theatre welcomes theatregoers back to its new autumn season with the best of high quality arts and entertainment.
The season starts with a hardhitting, emotional Bosnian drama that comes straight from this year's Edinburgh International Festival.

Class Enemy, performed by East West Theatre Company is set in a rundown schoolroom, where a group of foul-mouthe
d high school students conduct their own lessons as they await teachers who never arrive.

Their parents, social workers and society in general have abandoned
them.

Performed in Bosnian with English supertitles, the play is based on Nigel Williams's provocative drama, which was set in South London in 1978.In this production though, Haris Pašovic transports us to Sarajevo in 2007, a post-war city where social disorder and teenage violence are rife.

We witness seven teenagers' dramatic and poignant life stories, which paint a bleak picture of family life, local politics and terror.

Each of these students is underprivileged – but they are also gifted and eager to be recognised, acknowledged, confronted and taught about life. In the isolated classroom chairs fly, emotions run high and violence erupts as the pupils burst with adolescent
energy, humour and vulnerability.

Described by critics as "passionate, shocking and engaging", the production does contain some very strong language.

The cast is made up of young Bosnian actors: Amar Selimovic, Maja Izetbegovic, Irma Alimanovic, Nusmir Muharemovic, Maja Zeco, Lidija Stevanovic, Samir Karic and Amir Muminovic.

This production comes to Cumbernauld courtesy of Sharing the Festival, which takes an Edinburgh International Festival production to people elsewhere in Scotland who might not otherwise experience one of the biggest arts festivals in the world.

Alongside this performance, the Festival is working with young people in Cumbernauld on the challenges and rewards of experiencing theatre in a foreign language.

Class Enemy by East West Theatre Company is at Cumbernauld Theatre on Thursday September 4 at 8 p.m. Tickets, priced £9/£7 are available from
the Box Office on (01236) 732887.
